Are you interested in working in versatile and varied tasks in the cleaning industry and in different work environments, such as assisted living facilities, kindergartens, or schools? Or perhaps you are interested in tasks related to maintaining cleanliness in homes?
Now you can have the opportunity to study the cleaning industry in a multiform way, and to complete a vocational qualification unit to get professional competence to work as a Site Facilities Operative or a Housekeeper. During the training you will gain the professional skills needed to work in diverse tasks within the cleaning industry.
The key objective of this training is the students employment, which is why building a professional network through on the job learning plays an important role in the training. The immediate aim of the training is that the students will be employed as a Site Facilities Operative or a Housekeeper summer worker in the on the job learning companies after successfully completing the training.
After completing a vocational qualification unit, it is possible later to continue the studies to complete the entire qualification in Cleaning and Property Services.
For Whom? Target Group and Requirements
The training is targeted for unemployed jobseeker customers of regional Employment Services, and for jobseeker customers of regional Employment services, who are under risk of being unemployed, AND meet the following requirements:
- Strong motivation for cleaning service tasks
- Customer service mindset
- Good written and oral skills in English (must be at least level B1.1)
- Ability to work physically, independently, and precisely
- Readiness for shift work
About Working in the Cleaning Industry
Cleaning work is independent and varied.
Housekeepers work in various home service tasks. Housekeepers provide home cleaning services in private homes and home-like institutions.
Site Facilities Operatives work in different facility maintenance tasks performing cleaning duties in residential properties, hotels and accommodation facilities, shopping centers, educational institutions, and kindergartens. They ensure that the facilities are clean and tidy for users.
Content of the training
Qualification: Vocational Qualification in Cleaning and Property Services (Partial Qualification)
Title of Qualification: Site Facilities Operative / Housekeeper
The students goal is to complete one of the following qualification units:
Maintenance Cleaning Services, 30 cp:
- Planning maintenance cleaning in the customer site
- Carrying out maintenance cleaning and other services tasks in the customer site
- Working in customer service situations and as a member of the work community
- Complying with occupational safety
Home Cleaning Services, 30 cp:
- Planning home cleaning service tasks in the customer site
- Carrying out home maintenance cleaning in the customer site
- Carrying out basic home cleaning in the customer site
- Carrying out textile and clothing care tasks in the customer site
- Working in customer service situations and as a member of the work community
- Complying with occupational safety
The training also includes teaching of customer service, occupational safety, environmental care, communication, information technology and working life knowledge. During the training, it is also possible to study professional Finnish and other subjects that support learning abilities. The training also includes study guidance for the students.
A personal competence development plan (PCDP) is drawn up for each student taking into account the students previous education and work experience. At the beginning of the training, the selected qualification unit will be included in each students PCDP.
Practical implementation
Training period: January 20, 2026 – May 22, 2026
Holiday period: February 16, 2026 – February 22, 2026
The training is carried out as multiform training which includes contact instruction, online learning, supervised self-study as well as on the job learning.
Contact instruction will be held on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Careeria’s Vantaa Campus, Virnatie 5, 01300 Vantaa.
Approximately half of the training consists of practical learning in the workplace. During on-the-job learning students complete their competence demonstrations. Learning in the workplace takes place in various locations according to each students individual plan. On the job learning might be held also on weekends and evenings depending on the working hours arrangements of on the job learning workplaces.
The training is full-time studying.
The training will be held in English.
Application and Selection Process
Site Facilities Operative / Housekeeper, 20.1.2026 Vantaa, Labour market training
Fill out an electronic application by December 8, 2025. If you cannot use the electronic application with strong authentication (online banking codes, a mobile certificate, or a smart ID card), you can personally submit a paper application at any office of regional Employment Services (paper application form keha20e1_fi 05/2025: www.suomi.fi; the search word: Hakemus työvoimakoulutukseen; the training number: 25020728).
Representatives of Helsinki Employment Services and Careeria Oy make a pre-selection for the training based on the applications.
In the application, it is important to highlight your suitability and motivation for the training, and for working in the cleaning industry. Please fill out the application in English.
After the pre-selection, some of the applicants will be invited for a selection interview. The interviews will take place at Careeria´s Vantaa Campus (Virnatie 5, 01300 Vantaa) in week 2, 2026. Careeria Oy will send the interview invitations by SMS/e-mail approximately two weeks before the interview time. Applicants whose native language is not English also need to take part in the English language test during the selection process.
Please note that the training application is binding and cannot be withdrawn without a valid reason. By submitting an application to this training, you agree to participate in the selection process and to take part in the training, if you are selected for it. If you cancel the application, do not participate in the selection process, or do not start the training, regional employment services will review your entitlement to unemployment benefit (Työttömyysturvalaki 2 a Chapter 9-10 § and 14 §).
