Workplace-Oriented Skills Development in the Cleaning Industry Based on a Partial Further Vocational Qualification!
This labor market training is primarily intended for unemployed people and those at risk of unemployment who are clients of employment services, have an active job search, and are at least 20 years old. Have you previously worked in the cleaning industry, or have you studied cleaning and would you like to further develop your skills? You are motivated to grow your competence and find employment in cleaning sector roles.
Now you have the opportunity to study the cleaning industry in a flexible and varied way, develop your competence, and complete partial Further Vocational Qualification. This training will provide you with the professional skills needed to work as a Site Facilities Operator or a Housekeeper. During the training, you will gain the professional skills required to work in a wide range of tasks within the cleaning industry.
The key objective of this training is the student’s employment, which is why building a professional network through on-the-job learning plays an important role in the training. The immediate aim of the training is that the students will be employed as a Site Facilities Operator or a Housekeeper summer worker in the on-the-job learning companies after successfully completing the training.
This education leads to a partial Further Vocational Qualification. After completing partial Further Vocational Qualification, it is possible later to continue the studies to complete the entire Further Qualification in Cleaning and Property Services.
Cleaning work is independent and varied. During this training, you will gain the professional skills needed to work in diverse tasks within the cleaning industry.
A housekeeper works in various home service tasks. A housekeeper provides home cleaning services in private homes and home-like institutions.
A site facilities operative works in different facility maintenance tasks. Site facilities operator performs cleaning duties in residential properties, hotels and accommodation facilities, shopping centers, educational institutions, and kindergartens. They ensure that the facilities are clean and tidy for users.
Target Group of the Training
Applicants for this training program are required to have:
- previous studies in the cleaning industry or work experience in cleaning tasks
- an interest in cleaning services and a customer-oriented mindset
- good spoken and written English language skills
- the ability to work physically, independently, and accurately
- readiness to work in shifts
A English language test will be conducted during the student selection process if the applicant’s native language is not English.
Good written and oral skills in English (must be at least level B1.1).
Ability to work physically, independently, and precisely.
After this training, a person can work as a Site Facilities Operator or Housekeeper in places like:
- hotels
- homes
- schools
- shopping centers
- cleaning service companies
Training content
Qualification:
Further Vocational Qualification in Cleaning and Property Services (Partial Qualification)
Title of full qualification: Site facilities operator / Housekeeper
The goal is for students to complete a partial further vocational qualification during the training. At the beginning of the training, each student will receive a personal competence development plan (HOKS), in which the units to be completed are selected.
The training includes at least the following units:
- Provision of customer-oriented cleaning and property services 15 competence points
- Maintenance Cleaning Services 45 competence points OR
- Home Cleaning Services 45 competence points
Optional unit 30 competence points. Total 90 competence points.
The training also includes teaching of customer service, occupational safety, environmental care, communication, information technology and working life knowledge. During the training, it is also possible to study professional Finnish and other subjects that support learning abilities. The training also includes study guidance for the students.
Implementation of the Training
The training is organized as full-time day studies from October 21, 2026, to June 9, 2027.
It consists of contact teaching, distance learning, independent studies, and workplace learning.
Classroom teaching days are scheduled for weekdays variously between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Careeria’s Herttoniemi or Vantaa Campus (Lämmittäjänkatu 2A 00880 Helsinki or Virnatie 5A, 01300 Vantaa).
Approximately half of the training is workplace learning, during which students complete their competence demonstrations. Workplace learning takes place in various locations according to each student’s individual plan. The working hours during these periods follow the employer’s schedule (may include evening and weekend shifts). The goal of the training is to gain employment as a summer worker in the companies that provide on-the-job learning placements.

Application and Selection Process

Application and Selection Process Fill out an electronic application by September 25, 2026.
If you cannot use the electronic application with strong authentication (online banking codes, a mobile certificate, or a smart ID card), you can personally submit a paper application at any office of regional Employment Services (paper application form keha20e.).

Fill in the form carefully and provide arguments for why you should be chosen for the training.
In the application, it is important to highlight your suitability and motivation for the training, and for working in the cleaning industry. Please fill out the application in English.
Representatives of Helsinki Employment Services and Careeria Oy make a pre-selection for the training based on the applications.
After the pre-selection, some of the applicants will be invited for a selection interview. The interviews will take place at Careeria´s Helsinki Campus (Lämmittäjänkatu 2A 00880 Helsinki) in week 41 2026. Careeria Oy will send the interview invitations by SMS/e-mail approximately two weeks before the interview time. Applicants whose native language is not English also need to take part in the English language test during the selection process.
Please note that the training application is binding and cannot be withdrawn without a valid reason. By submitting an application to this training, you agree to participate in the selection process and to take part in the training, if you are selected for it. If you cancel the application, do not participate in the selection process, or do not start the training, regional employment services will review your entitlement to unemployment benefit (Työttömyysturvalaki 2 a Chapter 9-10 § and 14 §).
